Since 1998, we have partnered with local independent book stores and other organizations to bring the city together to read one book. Library Closed Monday, Feb.17 All locations of The Seattle Public Library and book drops at the Central Library will be closed on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 17. The new library is expanding its collection and technology services, using part of the $196.4 million bond issue (part of which went to build and renovate other branches), and part of $82 million being raised the Seattle Public Library Foundation through its "Campaign for Seattle's Public Libraries. He seems even prouder of its new postmodern central branch, the vision of award-winning Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Marshall's book does a passable job of relating that story in his well-illustrated work, Place of Learning, Place of Dreams. Three of the book's eleven chapters deal with the new building.
